Get Tested for HIV
The first HIV antibody test was developed in 1985, required multiple blood draws, and took up to 12 weeks for the results. Thanks to dedicated HIV medical professionals over the past 40 years HIV testing has become quick, accurate and best of all painless.
Golden Rule Services uses the OraQuick HIV Test. This test uses oral fluid to check for antibodies to HIV Type 1 and HIV Type 2, the viruses that cause AIDS. The HIV testing technician kit will take an oral fluid sample by swabbing your upper and lower gums with the test device. After collecting the sample it will take 20-40 minutes to obtain the test result.
When should I take a test for HIV? If you, or your partner, actively engage in behavior that puts you at risk for HIV infection, then you should consider testing on a regular basis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, although it can take up to 6 months to develop antibodies for HIV, approximately 97% will develop detectable antibodies in the first 3 months following the time of their infection.
